A carte de visite by John Fergus, Largs showing the heavily bearded figure bust length, dated on the verso 1884. Donald Campbell Macnabb [1833 – 1913] joined the East Indian Company Civil Service in the Punjab in 1853. Like so many civil officers he was swept up by the cataclysmic events of the Indian Mutiny of 1857 and helped to raise a considerable body of Irregular Horse at Shahpur which was sent to Delhi . He was Commissioner of Rawal Pindi and of Peshawar 1873-81, retiring from the service in the latter year. The cdv is accompanied by a contemporary identification label from an old family album.    jul1/5
