Contemporary half calf with marbled paper covered boards, red title label gilt, professionally re-cased with some careful repair to the joints, armorial bookplate of Lord Forbes to front pastedown and his signature Forbes to top margin of title page with the date 1796 , later stamp to front free endpaper Getty Oil (Britain) ltd, Sutton Place. No further ownership markings, contents very clean and all maps neatly folded. A very good and complete copy of a scarce title. All maps are as called for and all are neatly folded with
just the occasional small closed tear. There is an interesting six page list of subscribers amongst whom is Lord Forbes, along with several other members of his family. The family, whose title dates back to the 15th century, had their seat at Pitsligo. From the list of family members on the subscribers’ list it should be possible to work out the exact original ownership of this volume.
