Sutherland Volunteers, Northern Battalion, officer’s 16mm

POA

An attractive small,  16mm, silver plated, open backed button of officer’s quality with the wording SUTHERLAND  VOLUNTEERS and a central thistle beneath a Georgian crown with lettering to the sides Nn    Bn. There is no backmark and the button is in very good condition. The Militia List 1807 lists just two Volunteer units in Sutherland, the 1st or Eastern Bn, and the 2nd or Northern Bn. The latter Bn. appears with George, Earl Gower as its Colonel and Eric, Lord Reay as Lieutenant Colonel. The extent to which the button is domed makes it difficult to photograph.  may22/1   SOLD 22nd May 2023
