Trinity College Cambridge. A handsome silver cigarette case enamelled with the college arms

The Edwardian cigarette case is enamelled with the arms of Trinity College, Cambridge. It measures 70 x 85mm, weighs 107 gms and is hallmarked on the gilt interior for Birmingham 1910 with the maker’s mark B.P.D.C. It has the original owner’s initials engeraved top left. It belonged to Charles Grace, head of a prominent St Andrew’s family which had strong connections with the Royal and Ancient Golf Club there where members of the family served as Honorary Secretary for over 100 years as well as serving as Town Clerk.

Trinity College was founded in 1546 by King Henry VIII.
