Unmounted seal matrix with initials TG beneath a demi lion holding a crown

An unmounted seal matrix, 20 x 16 mm, the intaglio showing a monogram of initials TG in script capitals in an oval beneath a heraldic crest of a demi lion holding a crown. The octagonal matrix was probably designed for a signet ring and is lightly chamfered around the upper edges, more deeply around the base. The crest is somewhat reminiscent of the upper half of that used by the East India Company but differs in detail. There are two very small chips to the edges of the under side.   feb6/2
