Williams,  [John] the late Captain, of the Invalid Establisjment of the Bengal Army: An Historical Account of the Rise and Progress of the Bengal Native Infantry, from its first formation in 1757, to 1796, when the present Regulations took place. Together with a detail of the services on which the several battalions have been employed during that period. John Murray 1817 1st edition 8vo.

Coloured frontispiece of uniform, 3 other similar plates, [iv], 387pp, [i corrections]. Contemporary half calf with marbled paper covered boards, professionally re-cased with ne spine with red title label gilt. Both boards have the handsome gilt stamp of The Society of Writers to the Signet but the only other sign of being ex-library is a shelf number label to the front pastedown. The first of two blanks before the frontispiece is loose but the rest of the text block is in very good condition. A classic work which is now becoming rather hard to find.     jun16/3
