World War One. An unusual commemorative souvenir in a silver mounted folder

£160.00

NEW ERA WORLD WAR SOUVENIR. This unusual London printed souvenir comprises four fully coloured plates, each 14½ x 10 ins, designed by Achille Florio and titled: Huns trampling Belgium under foot, Allies Triumph. Deeds not words, “Enfin”. The sheets of stout paper are very clean and preceded by an explanatory page A Note by a Critic. The leaves are tied with a blue ribbon and retained in the folder by upper and lower flaps. The folder, approx 16 x 12 ins, is covered in rich blue velvet with silver corners and working clasp, each hallmarked Birmingham 1917 – 18. The lining is matching blue moiré silk. There is wear to the spine and around the mounts but this is an unusual survival. We have seen the odd sheet from the work framed and glazed but never encountered the complete folder.      jun6/2
