105th Foot, Madras Light Infantry, officer’s gilt 19mm
£20.00
The 19mm officer’s gilt button is in good condition with the backmark JENNENS & Co. LONDON. The button retains virtually the full original gilt finish to the face althouhgh there is some greenish corrosion around part of the reverse. The 105th Madras Light Infantry (2nd Madras European Light Infantry) was one of the regiments taken into the British Line in 1861 after the end of the East India Company. The button was worn from 1861 to 1881 when it became the 2nd Bn. The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. All the numbered buttons 101 to 109 are rather hard to find, partly at least because they were in use for a shorter period than most. The smaller buttons are much scarcer than than the larger ones although most collectors prefer the larger size. may8/2
