A good officer’s gilt 19mm button of the 16th Regiment of Bengal Cavalry of the pattern adopted in 1885. It was replaced in 1900 by a similar pattern with the regimental number altered to XVI from 16 although from 1896 the regiment used the general Bengal Lancers pattern. This example has the rather uncommon backmark SIMPSON & ROOK, LONDON. apr1/1
