[ii], 225pp, [iii Millan’s list and Additions.  Contemporary full fine straight grain crimson morocco gilt with titles directly to the panelled spine which is also decorated with trophies of military arms, drums, and flags,  original boldly marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, excellent condition throughout with about six pages browned [probably use of poorer quality paper]. 2 leaves between pp128 & 133 have been cut out – possibly they had the uniform and garrison details claimed on the title page but not appearing in the book, This type of fine crimson binding with gilt decoration was popular in the 18th and 19th centuries with military men, popularised by the libraries of George III and the Royal Dukes.  apr24/1
