22nd Madras Native Infantry, officer’s 20mm, open backed gilt button
£75.00
East India Company. An excellent example of an early officer’s 20mm gilt button of the 22nd Madras Native Infantry . The open backed button does not have a backmark but is of high quality, retaining virtually the full original gilt finish. It has the design of the regimental number XXII within a garter with the word REGIMENT beneath a crown which is probably of the George IV period. The National Army Museum shows a somewhat similar button from the Chapple collection but it has a closed back and battle honours on a circlet, Our example has every appearancxe of dating from around the time the regiment was named in 1824. jul3/1 RESERVED 4th July 2025
