An example the 18mm brass button of the 23rd Foot, The Royal Welsh Fusiliers as worn by other ranks. The button, which has the Irish backmark  SMITH & WRIGHT, BIRMM is the pattern worn from 1855 to 1881 when its title became 1st & 2nd Bns. The Royal Welch Fusiliers. The design has the regimental number beneath the Prince of Wales’s crest with his motto Ich Dien.  jul13/4
