2nd Foot, The Queen’s Royal Regiment, brass 25mm.

A good ORs button of the 2nd Queen’s Royal Regt. of Foot 25mm with the backmark E. W.s.. PATENT. Unusually for an ORs button this example has traces of an original gilt finish. The patent seems to be a design to make the button lie more closely to the tunic by having most of the usual shank recessed.. Although we haven’t encountered this precise patent before similar styles appear on Smith & Wright buttons made in Birmingham. This design was worn from 1855 until 1881 when the regiment became the 1st & 2nd Bns. The Queen’s Royal Regiment.   may15/1
