33rd Foot, later the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, portrait of an officer.

£800.00

33rd Regiment of Foot, later the Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Regiment. An attractive half length portrait of an officer in an early Victorian uniform. The watercolour, measuring 10¾ x 8½ ins, is painted on paper laid on to card and currently in a rather distressed  giltwood and gesso frame, 18½ x 16½ ins. There is no visible signature but we illustrate the lower right corner by his cocked hat where there are some indistinct marks. The gilt buttons are of a plain design with just the regimental number. The face is particularly well painted, the hands less so, as is often the case. The frame appears to have been designed for a canvas rather than a watercolour. may29/5
