3rd Native Infantry, brass sepoy’s button, 23mm
£25.00
This sepoy’s button of the 3rd Native Infantry is an example the largest button worn on the tunic between 1855 and 1877 when standardised buttons were introduced for the Native Infantry regiments of all three Presidencies – Bengal, Madras, and Bombay. These buttons used the French scroll and dot with a wreath around the number. Similar designs were used on some of the British infantry during the same period. This example, like all the other ones we have come across, has the backmark SMITH KEMP & WRIGHT BIRMINGHAM. The is a little rubbed on the face but in better than average for these buttons and the brass back plate is exceptionally good. oct29/1
