3rd West York (Light Infantry) Militia officer’s white metal 23mm button c.1853-55.

£30.00

A 23mm white metal button of the 3rd (Light Infantry) West York Militia with design of the rose within the light infantry strung bugle with crown above. It has the backmark C. R & Co. EXTRA RICH.  A very similar button is illustrated in Ripley & Darmanin: English Infantry Militia Buttons 1757-1881 [293] where it is noted that the button was also worn by the 4th Royal Lancashire Militia. However this example does not have the rim shown in taht illustration. That, and the fact that it is 2mm smaller than the typical tunic button suggests tht it my have been worn on the coatee. Another button from my old private collection put together in the 1970s.  oct11/3
