46th (South Devonshire) Regt. of Foot. Pewter 18mm, late George III period

The flat pewter 18mm soldier’s button of the 46th (South Devonshire) Regt. of Foot has the design of the regiment’s number raised within a French scroll and dot as recorded in Parkyn: Shoulder-Belt Plates and Buttons p.176 as being introduced around 1800. The button shows some damage and we have left it on an old collector’s piece of card dated 28/6/94. After 1881 the regiment became part of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry .     ,ar29/1
