4th Prince of Wales Own Madras Cavalry. Brass shoulder-belt plate

The brass shoulder-belt plate measures 95 x 85 mm and the regimental badge, approximately 68 x 68 mm overall and conforms to the design of a headdress badge of the regiment worn between 1870 and 1891, illustrated in Ashok Nath Izzat  ref C1.55.06. The design has the regimental title IV PRINCE OF WALES OWN MADRAS CAVALRY on a circle around the elephant standing on the a plate with the honour ASSAYE . Two further honours, SERINGAPATAM MAHIDPOOR , on scrolls beneath, the whole surmounted with the Princeof Wales’s crest. The central elephant is always associated  with the battle of Assaye in 1803 during the 3rd Mahratta War.     dec3/2
