55th Regt. of Foot, the Border Regiment, officer’s 26mm

£25.00

A good example of an officer’s gilt button of the large 26mm size worn on the tunic between 1855, when it was known as the Westmorland Regiment, until 1881 when it became the 2nd Battalion of the Border Regiment. The dragon beneath the Victorian crown represents its battle honour for the China war. The button has the backmark JENNENS & Co. LONDON. There is a little loss of the gilt on the higher points of the design.  jun26/1
