55th Regt. of Foot, the Border Regiment, brass 26mm

£25.00

A very good example of an brass button of the large 26mm size worn on the tunic between 1855, when it was known as the 55th Westmorland Regiment of Foot, until 1881 when it became the 2nd Battalion the Border Regiment. The dragon beneath the Victorian crown represents its battle honour for the China war. The button has the backmark FIRMIN LD  LONDON & BIRMINGHAM . There is a small difference from the officers’ buttons shown elsewhere in this category in that the top of the figure is straight whereas it turms upward lon the others,   nov18/6
