73rd Foot Perthshire. A good 25mm other ranks brass button which has no backmark. This is the pattern worn from 1855 to 1881 when the regiment became known as the 2nd Bn. The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regt.). The design incorporates thistles around the regimental number beneath a Victorian crown. The button is not heavily rubbed. The regiment first saw service in India in 1780 against Tippoo Sultan. jun18/4
