73rd Foot, Perthshire officer’s gilt 25mm button, 1855=1881

73rd Foot Perthshire. An excellent 25mm officer’s gilt button with the backmark FIRMIN & SONS LONDON. This is the pattern worn from 1855 to 1881 when the regiment became known as the 2nd Bn. The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regt.). The design incorporates thistles around the regimental number beneath a Victorian crown. The button retains virtually all of the original gilt finish. The regiment first saw service in India in 1780 against Tippoo Sultan. jun8/3
