An unusual depiction of the Taj Mahal in silver lace on velvet

POA

The panel of emroidery on a black velvet background, roughly 17 x 11 ins [42 x 28 cm] visible, shows a frontal view of the Taj Mahal at Agra. This depiction of the monument to Mumtaz Mahal, wife of Emperor Shah Jahan, was built in the first half of the 17th cenury and this depiction, designed as a cushion cover and later appearing to have been framed, probably dates from late Victorian times or the early 20th century. Although there are a few signs of wear or neglect it would be well repay careful attention. The embroidery is largely of silver thread in the style of lace on military uniform.   mar21/1.  SOLD 21st March 2026
