87th Regt. of Foot , officer’s large size gilt 26mm


87th Foot, Royal Irish Fusiliers. An very good example of the officer’s 26mm gilt button with the design of a a captured eagle standard taken from the French 8th Regiment at Barossa in 1811.  The backmark is JENNENS & SONS, LONDON. After 1881 the 87th was known as The Royal Irish Fusiliers (Princess Victoria’s Own)The button retains most of the original gilt with just a little rubbing on the high points of the eagle. dec 24/1
