8th Foot, The King’s Regiment A Victorian officer’s gilt button 25mm

An extremely fine example the 25mm officer’s gilt button of the 8th (King’s) Regiment of Foot retaining full gilt. The button, which has the backmark  PITT & Co. 50 ST MARTINS LANE LONDON is the pattern worn from 1855 to 1881 when its title became 1st & 2nd Bn The King;s Regiment. In this example the white horse of Hanover appears within the garter facing left. There are also examples where the horse faces right and these were worn in pairs on the frock coat.   aug30/4

Elsewhere in this category is an example of a brass other ranks button with the horse facing right.
