An officer of the 16th (Bedfordshire) Regt. in Montreal, Canada 1863

£40.00

A carte de visite of 1863 showing a lieutenant bust length wearing a very distinctive great coat of a pattern worn on service in Canada. The cdv, by Notman, Montreal, is identified on the verso in a contemporary hand as Lieut. Sherringham, 1st Batt. 16th Regt. Montreal C.E.  8th June 1863. The coat appears to have frogging. Lieut. C. Temple Sherringham is listed in Hart’s Army List 1861 in the 16th (Bedfordshire) Regt of Foot and was commissioned into the regiment March 1858, promoted to Lieutenant Oct 1859.    jan13/2

A related full length portrait of a brother officer of the 16th can be seen in this category by entering jan25/4 where you will see the frock coat in more detail.
