BARODA. A good photographic group of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, probably 1890s.

The Maharaja was born in 1863 and ruled from 1875 to 1939. In this rather unusual image he is seated with his children in the centre of a large group of noblemen and retainers. It measures 297 x 237mm [ approx 11.5 x 9.25 ins] and is pasted to a stout piece of old album card. The verso has a similarly sized photograph of a very lively street scene with a procession of cavalry riding along a city street [presumably Baroda].  Reserved 27th January 2019
