Bhavnagar. A nobleman, possibly the Vizier, late 19th century

£34.00

Bhavnagar. A somewhat faded card de visite of a nobleman, full length seated by an occasional table on which is a pair of binoculars. The card is identified in ink on the front and also in a comtemporary hand on the verso which seems to read Harrisinghji Vuzeer to Bhownuggur. The card has no photographer’s credit and seems to date form 1870-1880s. Bhavnagar was a 13 gun salute state on the Gulf of Cambay in southern Gujarat. The binoculars may be an indication of being far sighted or just there to suggest a modern person of the day.   jun14/3
