BIKANER. Maharaj Sadul Singh in cavalry uniform

£150.00

A good vintage portrait of Maharaj Sadul Singh of Bikaner, 7¾ x 5½ ins, pasted to a piece of card which is close trimmed. The Maharajkumar wears cavalry uniform of Indian style with a kurta and pagri. His sword is of the British officer’s 1896 model with a homeysuckle pattern hilt. He was the heir to his father Ganga Singh whom he was to succeed in 1943, becoming the last ruling Maharaja of Bikaner and dying in 1950. He had been born in 1902 and was with his father at the 1911 Coronation Durbar in Delhi. He wears the medal together with the Coronation Medal. There is a little chipping to the extreme bottom edge of the photograph. Although old we think this print was taken from the plate at a later date.           mar11/6
