Calcutta. Prince Gholam Mahommed’s Musjeed. A Vintage Photograph Circa 1870s

£25.00

Westfield & Co.: Prince Gholam Mahommed’s Musjeed.

A good photograph of the elaborate mosque erected by Prince Gholam Mahommed, son of Tippoo Sultan of Mysore, in the time of Lord Auckland after the HEICo granted him arrears of his stipend which had been outstanding. At the time it was noted as the finest place of Mahommedan worship in Calcutta. Mounted on a piece of old card with Westfield’s printed title and note (No. 10) beneath, on a old part page from an album. Westfield produced some very good images of Calcutta in small souvenir albums.  nov14/2
