£175.00
A damaged gentlemsn’s fob seal with an intact carnelian matrix showing the right profile of Roman soldier wearing a plumed hemet. The intglio measures 24 x 18 mm and is still in most of the simple remains of a formerly gilded gentlemaman’s fob seal, probably late 18th or early19th century and now lacking most of the original ring which would have been suspended, approx, 30mm oveall. jun3/3
Provenanc: I probably acquired this at one of the many country housse auctions I attended in the last quarter of the 20th century, quite likely to have been ar Strelley Hall, Nottinghamshire.
