Central India Horse. A regimental silver menu or place card holder, 1925

£675.00 £550.00

The very smart menu or place card holder has a rectangular weighted base, 52 x 33 x 10 cm, fully hallmarked London 1925 by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Ltd. This supports the badge of the regiment, crossed lances behind the C I H monogram beneath a king’s crown, 45 x 35 mm. From late Victorian and Edwardian times silver or silver plated menu holders and place card holders became popular accessories at the fashionable dining table. Some such regimental patterns may have been used in the mess but also bought, usually in sets of six, for use in individual homes by members of the regiment.    jul23/4
