East India Company. Madras European Fusiliers. Officer’s gilt 24mm button c 1850s

£90.00

The fine quality officer’s 24mm gilt button has the backmark FIRMIN & SONS 153 STRAND LONDON in this case, rather unusually, impressed in a recessed circle around the shank. The NationalArmy Museum holds an officer’s coatee with this pattern of button but this example came from a very damaged early tunic of the style adopted during the Crimean War. The regiment was to be taken into the English line in 1862 as the 102nd Royal Madras Fusiliers.  jul3/2
