Gentleman’s travellng pocket compass by Negretti & Zambra

£225.00

The fine compass, measuring 50mm in diameter, remains in its original fitted case of leather with green velvet lining. The style of the compass is very much along the lines of a pocket watch of the late 19th century or perhaps Edwardian period. It works perfectly well and the button within the ring can be depressed to fix the pointer when it is not in use. The gilt brass case is almost unmarked and there is just enough wear on the top of the ring to show that it was used. The enamelled dial has the maker’s mark Negretti & Zambra,    London. The company started making fine instruments in the 1850s.
