Gordon Highlanders. Indian memorial to the fallen 1892-1894


1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders. Two 10¾ x 8½ ins photographs on two old card album pages showing a memorial obelisk. The names of soldiers on it are: Durns, Mitchell, Dr. T Meacher, Connolly, Brown, Roy, Tennant, Hay, Robb, Geddes McNamara, Black. Edmund, Murray, Stephen, Durrant, Brice, Graham, Gilby, Cumming, Connon, Fraser, & Middleton. The memorial was erected at Subuthu, Umballa to commemorate comrades who fell between Jan 1892 and Jan 1894.  The reverse of one page has an interesting group photo, 10½ x 8 ins, entitled Coffee Shop Employ and the other has a photo of the opera House in Malta.    There are small closed tears to the top of each page affecting the top edge of the two memorial images.    may20/2
