£30.00

Gwalior 1940. A vintage wartime photograph of the Viceroy of India, the Marquess of Linlithgow taking the salute at a parade of the Gwalior State Forces. H. H. Mahraja Jivajirao Scindia of Gwalior is horsed to the Lord Linlithgow’s right. The leading officers are saluting with their swords as they ride past as the Viceroy, weating grey frock coat, raises his solar topi in return. Gwalior’s troops were placed at the disposal of the Government at this time as they had been by the Maharaja’s father in 1914.  Gwalior always had a special relationship with the British royal family and the Viceroys whom were often entertained lavishly in festivities and the highly estimated tiger hunting. There are marks to the verso where the photograph has been tipped to an old album leaf.   apr2/1
