H R H Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught. A cdv of the 1880s
£15.00
The bust length portrait carte de visite is by A Bassano, 25 Old Bond St W & 72 Piccadilly and probably dates from 10 years or so after Bassano moved to Bond St in 1877. He was much favoured by high society and royalty. the portrait shows the Prince in civilian dress. As well as being Duke of Connaught and Strathearne Prince Arthur, the third son of Queen Victoria, also held the secondary title of Duke of Sussex. His long life [1850-1942] was devoted to royal and military service. He made many overseas trips in this role and in India is most notably remembered for his representation of his brother, King Edward VII, at the Coronation Durbar in Delhi in 1903. may3/3
