H.R.H. Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale [1864-1892]

£140.00

A good cabinet card, titled H.R.H. The Duke of Clarence and Avondale showing Prince Albert Victor [usually known in the family as Eddie], the elder son of the then Prince of Wales, later King Emperor Edward VII. The card, by Russell & Sons, 17 Baker Street, Portman Square, W shows the prince bust length in Royal Navy uniform with the Order of the Garter and the medal for the 1887 Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Had his short life not been cut short by pneumonia, of which he died at Sandringham shortly after his return from a successful tour of India, the Prince would have succeeded his father as King, a duty which fell to his younger brother, King George V. Portraits of him in uniform are more usually seen in that of the 10th King’s Royal Hussars.    jul1/2
