H. R. H. Prince Arthur of Connaught in Rifle Brigade uniform

H.R.H. Prince Arthur [Duke of Connaught]. A carte de visite sized photograph, 3½ x 2¼ ins showing the Prince in the uniform of the Rifle Brigade into which he was commissioned in 1868. This is pasted to an old piece of paper and identified beneath in ink in a neat hand. He wears the star badge of the Order of the Garter and the one just visible beneath is probably the G.C.M.G. he was awarded in 1870. Later as Duke of Connaught he spent much time in India where he commanded in Bombay for a period. Prince Arthur was the favourite son of Queen Victoria and a very hard working member of the Royal Family who lived into his nineties.   nov16/3
