An attractive portrait of Queen Victoria’s 2nd daughter Princess Alice [1843-1878] on a cabinet card by the fashionable photographer Alexander Bassano, 25Old Bond Street, London. The image probably dates from shortly before her death, at which time she had briefly been Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine after her husband, Prince Louis, succeeded. She died at the Palace in Darmstadt. jan30/3
