Princess Mary. A magnificent example of one of the official wedding portraits by Vandyk, 41 Buckingham Palace Rd. S.W. , 10¾ x 9 ins, mounted on the photographer’s card showing the firm’s Royal Appointment to H. R. H. The Prince of Wales. The overall size of the card is 14½ x 13 ins and the whole is in fine condition. H. R. H. The Princess Mary, only daughter of King-Emperor Geurge V and Queen-Empress Mary married The Viscount Lascelles, D.S.O. at Westminster Abbey on Tuesday, 28th February 1922. In this photograph the married couple are flanked King George V and Queen Mary. Both Lord Lascelles and the King wears the dress uniform of the Grenadier Guards.              jul18/8

 

Henry George Charles Lascelles [1882 – 1947] was Viscount Lascelles at the time of his marriage and a major in the Grenadier Guards, whose uniform he wears in the photograph with the badge of the Order of the Garter which the King had given him the day before the wedding. He was to succeed his faher as the 6th Earl of Harewood in 1929.

H. R. H. The Princess Mary [1887-1965] was the only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, later known as H. R. H. The Princess Royal, Countess of Harewood and was the sister of King Edward VIII and King George VI and aunt to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
