Haileybury College, 21mm mounted gilt button of the East India College from the Company period.

£75.00

The handsome and highly unusual mounted gilt button of 21mm diameter shows the East India College’s crest above initials H C C   and has the backmark JENNENS & Co. LONDON. The crest used by Haileybury above their coat of arms differs a little from that of the East India Company itself in that the lion rampant holds s scroll, indicating scholarship, rather than the usual small crown and wears what is described as an Eastern crown rather than the traditional royal crown. One imagines that the second stands for cadets but I have not seen conclusinve proof of that. The construction of the button is of officer’s quality.   jul30/3
