Imperial armband with royal cypher GRI on a Star of India pale blue ground

£275.00

The 3½ ins broad armband has the royal and imperial cypher GRI in bullIon beneath a Tudor crown and most probably dates from 1901 to 1914. It came from a source who said it was worn by an ADC to the Viceroy of India but we are not sure of precisely when it would have been worn. The pale blue cloth [a little stained but we have not attempted to clean or revive it] very much suggests a connection with the Most Exalted Star of India and it could well have been worn by someone marshalling an event such as one of Chapters of the Order which were held on occasions such as royal visits and the Durbars. It is likely that the officers doing such tasks could well have been aides de camp.          aug12/3
