These are the smaller sized buttons mainly worn on the tunic pockets or cuffs but in some caases the largest size worn on summer weight service dress. The smallest buttons on this card, some mounted with silver badges, were worn on an officer’s mess dress. It is not always easy to work out the precise use of a button. I remember once unpacking a pre war trunk of officer’s uniform from the 1930s and finding three versions of mess dress waistcoats worn variously with tropical whites and winter dress. feb8/1
