Indian Mutiny interest. A study of Delhi published in 1902 just before the 1903 Delhi Durbar.

Fanshawe, H. C., C.S.I. [late B.C.S. Commissioner for Delhi]: Delhi Past and Present. John Murray [London] 1902 1st Edition 8vo.
Frontispiecce & 49 other plates from photographs, 8 of 10 maps called for [lacking the 2 maps on one folded sheet in the rear pocket and the Durbar pamphlet usually there], xvii, 357pp, 6pp Murray’s List. Re-cased in old buckram gilt with some marks including a ring on the rear board, internally quite sound. Quite a good working copy of a work which is now quite hard to find. A large part of this book, pp 75 -221 deals with the Indian Mutiny, although there are sections on both earlier and later Delhi. Not an easy work to find these days. Fanshawe had been working on this book for over fifteen years and it is possible that Murray pushed him into publication because of the topicality of the subject at the time of the Durbar. A couple of the copies we have had previously had been bought by guests travelling out to India in 1902. jan30/1
