The heavy, silver plated whistle is of a standard pattern used by police forces but is stamped LEEDS POLICE and retains the orignal chain and hook. It does not have a maker’s mark but whistles of this pattern seem often to have been made by Hudson. When blown it creates that distinctive loud noise one remembers from watching or listening to stories like Sherlock Holmes ringing through city streets during exciting chases. . may2/1
