A personal letter in his own hand from Sir John Campbell Gordon, 7th Earl of Aberdeen to General Sir Peter Stark Lumsden seeking his agreement to having his name placed before the Queen for appointment as a Deputy Lieutenant for the County. Written on a single sheet of writing paper embossed HADDO HOUSE, ABERDEEN and dated June 17 1889 it is addressed to My dear Lumsden and signed Aberdeen. It is tipped to an old card album sheet and is accompanied by another sheet with a printed folio sheet titled LIEUTENANCY OF ABERDEENSHIRE with an extract from the Militia Act of 1882. feb15/4
Provenance: These pages were in an album put together by General Sir Peter Stark Lumsden, G.C.B., C.,S,I., A. D. C. [b1829]. We acquired this in a large archive of the general’s papers, documents, and photographs . Lumsden served almost his entire career in India but also had strong connections with Queen Victoria and his albums included many senior officers on both Royal and Viceregal Staffs.
