Lord William Paulet, G.C.B. A carte de visite of the General in frock coat with sword
A good carte de visite by J Harris, 83 Queen Street Portsea. Paulet had served in the Crimea as Adjutant General to the Cavalry Division where he was awarded the medal with four clasps and a CB. He became a Major General in 1858 and was advanced to Lt General in 1867. He served in the 68th Foot [the Durham Light Infantry], being commissioned into the regiment in 1821 and becoming Colonel of the Regiment in 1864. The general is shown full length and wears a frock coat with the very wide medal ribbons fashionable in the Crimean period, and carries a mameluke pattern sword. Lord William was the fourth son of the 13th Marquess of Winchester. may15/5
