London Missionary Society, commemorative medal dated 1844


The 40mm diameter pewter medal shows on the obverse a group of missionaries to the left overlooking a mass of indigenous people kneeling in a tropical landscape. The inscription on the reverse reads Among the Founders of the London Missionary Society in 1793, were Bogue, Haweis, Waugh, Wilks, Independent, Episcopalian, Presbyterian, and Calvinistic Methodist. All point to the cross. Jubilee 1844. The top of the medal is pierced and there are some edge knocks.               jan18.3
