Compiled for the benefit of the Male Asylum, Printed at the Asylum Press, Mount Road, by G. Calber, and Published by E. Marsden [Madras] 1829 1st edition 8vo.

ii Contents List, [ii Alterations while printing], 183pp, xvii Index.  Contemporary half leather gilt with marbled paper covered boards, general wear to binding with damage to head of spine,  a very sound copy with strong, clean paper throughout. This copy was one of those printed with interleaved blank leaves, usually used in regimental headquarters. There is some helpful updating annotation in a very neat secretarial hand and a contemporary ownership signature in pencil on the front free endpaper, J. I. Sherwood [see footnote].

This list includes detail not found in the East India Register of this year. Iy lists the officers of the following H.M. regiments stationed in Madras in 1836: 13th Lt. Dgns at Bangalore, 39th, 41st, 45th, 46th, 54th, 55th, 57th, 62nd, & 63rd regiments of foot. There is a two page casualty list. The lists of officers in each regiment also includes that of the Indian Subadar Major.   jun12/1

James Isaac Sherwood appears in this list as a Lieutenant in the Twemy Third Regiment or Wallajahabad Light Infantry, having been commissioned in 1828. The regiment is shown as stationed at Trichinopoly with battle honours for Seringapatam & Nagpore. .
