MEGOR,E. An early 18th century bookplate

MEGOR, E. A monogram bookplate of the initials EG  in an elborate cartouche with the initials C.C.C.C. on a scroll below, for Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. The bookplate, 70 x 60mm, remains pasted to an old marbled free endpaper of  an early 18th century book and we know the identity of the scholar from an inscription on a similar book which is inscribed E . Megor, C.C.C.C. 1733 . The name of later owner of the book written below is Joseph Godfrey Sherer , a cleric from Godmersham in Kent, whose sons served with distinction in the Navy and the East India Company’s Army [see details elsewhere on the website. oct3/1
